"Abstract Most DBAs treat the Redo Log simply as a recovery mechanism. But in the era of Cloud and Big Data, the Redo Log has become the de-facto integration hub for the enterprise. To architect a high-performance, low-latency data pipeline, we must go beyond the basics and understand the byte-level ""DNA"" of data changes. This session provides a forensic examination of Oracle Redo Log internals and their impact on Change Data Capture (CDC) throughput. Adding a new Oracle Home through Oracle Universal Installer is not the best way on Exadata Appliance, instead OEDACLI offers a faster, more efficient alternative that can save both disk space and deployment time. This talk walks through the process of adding a new Oracle Home on an Exadata running in a KVM environment, covering the full journey from environment preparation to final validation: downloading and installing the latest OEDA version, retrieving the required patch image via My Oracle Support, updating OEDACLI itself, and setting up SSH keys and root password synchronization across the VMs involved. Particular attention is given to aligning the cluster version with the new Oracle Home before deployment, a step that is essential to avoid failures later on. The deployment itself is carried out through OEDACLI's batch mode, given the length of the process, and the talk highlights a common pitfall: excessive trace files in the diagnostic directories can trigger Java heap space errors, so cleaning them up beforehand is recommended. Once the new Oracle Home is deployed, the presentation shows how to verify it in the Oracle Inventory, optionally rename the associated volume group for clarity, and closes with a few final considerations, such as the need to patch OJVM manually and carry over configuration files from the old home. |

What happens the moment your primary data center goes down, and how fast can your business come back? In the cloud, good Disaster Recovery starts well before the failover. It starts with the landing zone. This session is a real-world walkthrough of building an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure landing zone to host the DR of an on-premises data center with hundreds of VMware VMs, physical servers and business-critical workloads. How do you structure a cloud DR region that stays stable, consistent and governed on its own? We answer with the actual architecture, a hierarchy deployed in Terraform, a hub-and-spoke VCN where a central appliance inspects both north-south and east-west traffic, identity federated with Microsoft Entra ID, and centralized logging and monitoring on OCI. On top of it we layered OCVS with HCX to migrate the VMware workloads and Rubrik for data protection. What you take away is the real design and the real constraints we hit, from IP addressing to connectivity and identity. |
